Commissions
Commission on Assembly
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of the Regional Assembly, including arrangements and program.
Commission on Camp and Conference
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of regional programs at Bethany Hills, including developing the annual Camp and Conference Programs and other programs and events useful in serving the broad range of ages and interest groups within the Region. Spiritual formation, nurture, and renewal shall be the primary objectives of the Commission's programs.
Commission on Christian Unity
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of programs that involve Christian Unity and ecumenicity.
Commission on Congreational Vitality
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of programs to encourage and assist congregations in clarifying their mission as an expression of the body of Christ and in focusing their life and energy for the living of that mission. It will oversee, under the approval requirement of paragraph 110, Church Development and other funds that have been designated for congregational vitality and revitalization.
Commission on Leadership Development
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of opportunities and resources for leadership development and to network resources within and between congregations and Areas.
Commission on Ministry
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of the selection, maintenance, and support of ordained and lay ministers. The selection program shall include at least recruiting and training persons for full-time Christian service and for lay ministry, setting standards and procedures for ordination and licensing, and approving or disapproving applications for ordination and licensing. The maintenance program shall include at least determining ministerial standing in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), establishing ministerial ethics guidelines and taking action on violations, and establishing a code of sexual conduct and taking action on violations and complaints. The support program shall include at least assisting ministers in the relocation process, encouraging continuing education and career development, and assisting during periods of crisis.
Commission on New Congregation Establishment and Evangelish
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of programs for maintaining a master plan for new congregation establishment and procedures, for establishing and nurturing new congregations to maturity, for promoting and providing resources for evangelism in congregations, and for promoting public awareness and a positive public image of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It will oversee, under the approval requirement of paragraph 110, Church Development and other funds that have been designated for new congregation establishment.
Commission on Personnel
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of programs related to personnel employed by the Region. It shall prepare and administer a Personnel Policies and Procedures document, approved by the Regional Board, that shall include job descriptions, terms and conditions of employment, and provision for annual review for each employee of the Region. It shall make annual recommendations to the Regional Board concerning compensation for all employees. It shall review and interview candidates for all positions and make recommendations to the Regional Board concerning hiring. It shall provide general counsel in supervision of all employees other than the Regional Minister and President.
Commission on Reconciliation/Doorstep Ministries
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of the Reconciliation/Doorstep Ministry Program, including promotion of designated offerings and, under the approval requirement of paragraph 110, administering its grants. The Commission shall also be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of an anti-racism, pro-reconciliation program for the Region
Commission on Resources
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of the financial program of the Region, including recommendation of budgets to the Regional Board, financial reporting, oversight of permanent funds, the operation of the Regional Center for Ministry, and securing audits and legal counsel as needed. The Commission shall also be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of Bethany Hills facilities, including making rental contracts, keeping of calendar, establishing policy, promoting and advertising the facility, caring for the facilities and grounds, providing for food service, maintaining a master plan for the facility, and complying with government regulations
Commission on Stewardship and Interpretation
This Commission shall be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of stewardship development programs, including encouraging and providing resources for stewardship education in congregations, interpreting and promoting Disciples Mission Fund and the world-wide work of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and recognizing the stewardship accomplishments of congregations. The Commission shall also be responsible for the direction, planning, and management of the Region’s communication media, including the Tennessee Christian.
